The horse and dog dream team

Two of my favorite animals are horses and dogs. I know they can get along and often do. However, I love both of them and for different reasons. Horses, for their physical beauty, grace (given their immense size) and the power they exude.

I truly believe that dogs are one of God’s best creations, based on their unconditional love, companionship, and ability to emotionally connect with humans. For those of you that have read my other blogs, I’ve talked about Krieger, our German Shepherd that we lost 2.5 years ago. He was our third Shepherd. As you can probably guess, shepherds are our favorite dog, as they are super intelligent, loyal to their core, great protectors and affectionate, gentle giants.

It’s intriguing how horses and dogs are both intelligent and trainable animals, but they have distinctive differences between their developmental pathways and roles. I find it fascinating, that horses are primarily prey animals, although they have a strong fight instinct (if needed), and they’re focused on safety and herd behavior. Dogs, on the other hand, are considered predators, with a strict pecking order, and tend to interact with humans through their playful and loyal behavior.

Please check out the reel on horses and dogs, on Instagram by 1respect 18: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJKjCBtt0kN/?igsh=MWt6NnF3MTQ2ZGVyYw== My favorite is the one in which the horse is standing there, and the dog wraps his or her paws around the horse’s leg - Adorable! We humans can learn a lot from two completely different species of animals that have developed a strong bond between each other, in addition to the bond they develop with humans.

Dogs bring us a kind of joy and comfort that words can hardly explain. They seem to know exactly when something’s wrong—and when all is well—their intuition and capacity for connection are truly remarkable. I miss my Lucky deeply.

Love,

A.
