Who's in control?
About a year ago, I wrote a blog on “Is anyone stealing your peace?” In it I wrote about my realization that “true peace is having a calmness or a quiet mind, regardless of any change, uncertainty, or chaos surrounding me.” I also included a quote from my husband about peace, which is, “I think that living a life of peace requires rigorous discipline and a conscious effort.” I am now realizing the truth of what he said. Last week when I was having a difficulty in calming my

Is happiness a destination or are you just driving past it?
How many of us have said, “I will be happy when I have a new job, or when I have more money, or when we go on vacation, or when…?? How do you define happiness? Do you think that it is a destination, a fixed point you can reach after achieving a major goal, such as buying a house, getting a promotion, going on your dream vacation, or meeting your soulmate? Although it seems that this “destination happiness” is fleeting, conditional, and can often lead to an endless cycle of ch

Dare to embrace your true self? – The power of radical self-acceptance
Last week, one of my devotionals below ( Courage to Be Yourself) had a profound impact on me, as it reminded me that I no longer have to struggle with self-doubt, as I know that my value comes from being “fearfully and wonderfully made by God.” “ Courage to Be Yourself - https://www.bible.com/reading-plans/199/day/301?segment=0 ) , “Are you tired of playing games, wearing masks or trying to be someone other than yourself? Wouldn't you like the freedom to just be accepted f

Overthinking: From mental prisons to possibilities
I don’t know about you, but in the recent past, I have tended to overthink, and overthink on all of the bad stuff - future anxieties, past decisions, social interactions, etc. I have replayed conversations, worried about what others think and have dwelled on ‘what if‘ scenarios. Finally, dread and a sense of hopelessness settle in, making it difficult for me to concentrate or make decisions. Recently, I stumbled on a clip by Mr. Daryl Black (An inspiring speaker, author and

Stop thinning hair before it's too late
Brace yourself, because today I’m about to take this blog somewhere different. As many of you know, I tend to write more serious blogs about overcoming adverse circumstances. However, I do believe that hair thinning, or loss is something that can be embarrassing, discouraging and a common occurrence that many people go through later in life. I just heard a statistic that “by age 50, up to 85% of men and about 40–55% of women will experience noticeable hair loss or thinning.”

How to kick your blahs to the curb
I know we’ve all heard or used the phrase “blah, blah, blah,” and more often than we may admit. I understand this term is specifically related to meaningless or repetitive chatter. However, I am using it to explain how I’ve been feeling these past few weeks, which is “blah, blah, blah!” LOL. Although I’ve been working, exercising and living my life, I’ve been feeling disconnected and a lack of motivation. I realize that I can’t always be on top of the world, but I don’t like

Your daily dose of giggles: Why laughter is more than just fun
I don’t know about you, but every day seems to bring a new hurdle to jump over. In light of this, I am finding that actively cultivating joy and laughter is essential to my physical and mental well-being. Have you ever thought about how much you laugh during the course of a day? I’ve been pondering this topic recently, as my husband and I were talking about how I might incorporate laughter in my day, especially when my shoulder pain is excruciating. In my quest for understan

Acts of kindness in a crazy world
Last Tuesday I was going to write and post a blog on "Laughter," but it was a chaotic week. It began with detailed planning and preparation for my work trip to San Diego the next day. I had two days of back-to-back meetings. When I returned, I got up early the next morning to play pickleball. I had played four or five games and needed to get to work. However, I told one of my PB partners, “OK, ‘Just one more.” It is sort of comical, as that is a common saying all of us pickl

Escape the trap of anxiety and claustrophobia
If you’ve read any of my previous blogs, particularly the one on “When the physical pain gets to be too much,” you’ll see that I’ve experienced a series of health problems over the years. This involved numerous doctor visits across various specialties and a myriad of testing procedures on different parts of me. Are there any medical situations that make you feel particularly nervous or apprehensive? For me, I prefer to be doing just about anything else than going to the denti

A glimpse of Heaven: Discovering Lake of the Clouds
Hello Triumphant-Heart Friends, my apologies for the radio silence these past two weeks - back from the void now. LOL. My husband and I just returned from a two-week trip visiting our family in Northern Wisconsin. While we were there, we did a day trip to the state of Michigan. During our excursion, we had the opportunity to see multiple waterfalls. The largest of the waterfalls was Manabezho Falls, on the Presque Isle River. It was breathtaking, as well as serene as we walk

The horse and dog dream team
Two of my favorite animals are horses and dogs. I know they can get along and often do. However, I love both of them and for different reasons. Horses, for their physical beauty, grace (given their immense size) and the power they exude. I truly believe that dogs are one of God’s best creations, based on their unconditional love, companionship, and ability to emotionally connect with humans. For those of you that have read my other blogs, I’ve talked about Krieger, our Germa

Is there a hack for anxiety?
Last week, I struggled with major feelings of self-condemnation. It started out with a lack of motivation on my job and feeling like I was falling short at each turn. It transitioned into a disgust for the extra weight I had put on over the past few months. Finally, I became paralyzed with self-doubt in playing Pickleball. I couldn’t do anything right on the courts. It went from bad to worse, as I couldn’t get my serve over the net no matter how hard I tried. One of my PB fri

The purity and innocence of youth
While I believe that adulthood brings valuable experience and wisdom, I also think that we yearn for the elements of childhood innocence that we may have lost. By embracing childlike wonder, curiosity, and creativity, we can also benefit from these qualities and enrich our lives. Although I am more of a dog person, I love the innocence of this kitten and how she thinks that she is hiding. This is Winnie, my niece's kitty.

Does an attitude of gratitude promote a healthier life?
A month or so ago, I decided to treat myself to a massage during the week, as I had taken off the week to gain a bit of perspective, after my sister had passed. Lo and behold, it resulted in excruciating pain and a pinched nerve in my neck, leading to considerable shoulder pain. I went to a new ortho doctor and found out that I have arthritis in both of my shoulder joints and neck. Apparently, it is uncommon for someone in their mid 50s to have arthritis in the shoulders and
