Hello Triumphant-Heart Friends, my apologies for the radio silence these past two weeks - back from the void now. LOL. My husband and I just returned from a two-week trip visiting our family in Northern Wisconsin. While we were there, we did a day trip to the state of Michigan.
During our excursion, we had the opportunity to see multiple waterfalls. The largest of the waterfalls was Manabezho Falls, on the Presque Isle River. It was breathtaking, as well as serene as we walked along the river.
The highlight of our trip was the Lake of the Clouds, which is a scenic mountain lake, surrounded by lush forests and majestic bluffs. It is located in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in upper Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
The lake is nestled in a gorgeous valley between two ridges, surrounded by wilderness and breathtaking views. We had a remarkably clear and bright day. However, I understand that on cloudy or foggy days, it can appear to be ‘suspended among the clouds.’ I have also heard that in the Fall, the Lake of the Clouds features stunning views of vibrant colors of red, orange, and yellow foliage.
For those of you who are history buffs, the Lake of the Clouds was once a hub for copper mining. It was originally called Carp Lake, which was on the site of the Carp Lake Mine and Cornish Stamp Mill (which was used to crush ore and extract valuable minerals). The logging industry was also part of the lake’s history.
Today, the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is a hotspot for hiking, fishing, and enjoying beautiful scenery.
For those of you that love beautiful places, as well as you State Park lovers, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to the waterfalls and the lake.
For my husband and me, it was treasured time together with our family, surrounded by a stunning setting.
